MARY TALKS: Rao on Generative AI: All Hype, or Truly Transformative?

Join us online for the first Mary Talk of the academic year!

On Wednesday, September 20 at 7 p.m. (Eastern), we will hear from Anand Rao, Ph.D., professor of communication and chair of the Department of Communication and Digital Studies at UMW. Dr. Rao will present "Generative AI in Education, Business, and Healthcare: All Hype, or Truly Transformative?"

Since the launch of ChatGPT in November 2022, there has been a lot of buzz about generative artificial intelligence. There now are a variety of generative AI platforms offered by some of the world's biggest tech companies, and new applications are being released on a daily basis. But is this AI boom all hype? Or are we truly on the verge of an AI-driven transformation? In this Talk, Dr. Rao will explore some of the promise and peril of generative AI by looking at how it works and how its development already has made an impact on our daily lives.
