Join us online on Thursday, April 27, at 7:00 p.m. for the next installment in the Mary Talks series, Revolutionary Idealist: The Life and Legacy of James Monroe. Scott Harris '83, Director of the James Monroe Museum, will discuss Monroe's public service career that began with his combat in the Revolutionary War, saw his inauguration as the fifth president of the United States in 1817, and ended five decades later with his term as chairman of the Virginia Constitutional Convention of 1829-30.

The foundation of Monroe’s political career and philosophical worldview was the American Revolution, which he saw as not only a struggle for independence from Great Britain, but also as a beacon of liberty and hope to the world. “Revolutionary Idealist” examines the life and legacy of James Monroe through period artifacts and illustrations, much of which is found in The James Monroe Museum. This Mary Talk will cover Monroe’s career, family life, and place in history while also offering insight into the UMW-administered museum that bears his name.

The Mary Talk will begin promptly at 7:00 p.m. EST with a question and answer period to follow.  Although the Mary Talk is free to view, your registration is kindly requested. Once registered, you will receive an email with a link to the streaming video as well as instructions on how to submit Q&A questions, if you wish. We hope you can join us!
